Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. Protecting your private information is something I take really seriously. You can rest assured that I do all in my power to safeguard your information. Read my following Privacy Policy to learn more.

Coming from a GNU/Linux and Free Open Source Software background, I very much understand your need for privacy. I do all I can to protect your personal information.

In particular, I avoid any plugins or 3rd party elements that transmit data to external entities. In accord with the FOSS and GNU/Linux spirit, I use open source software that is self-hosted as much as possible:

This means NO Facebook integrations, NO embedded YouTube videos, NO embedded 3rd party elements from Google or Twitter without your explicit consent.

Instead of Google Analytics I use a free open source alternative that is designed with privacy in mind. You get my drift:

Remove the clutter and chose to run only the bare essentials. Build strong privacy by design!

This Privacy Policy applies to the https://danten.io and DanTen.io and outlines and restricts data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to DanTen.io include https://danten.io. By using the DanTen.io website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

To safeguard the privacy of your data during transmission, I use state-of-the-art encryption techniques such as SSL / HTTPS. The server location is Luxembourg, European Union and hosting is provided by my trusted European partner.

User Comments

Users may leave comments in the blog (news section). In addition to the comments themselves, the time of their creation and the username set by the visitor are saved. This is for my safety as I may be prosecuted for any illegal content on our website, even if created by users.

Newsletter

When you sign up for my newsletter, the data you provide will be used solely for this purpose. Subscribers may also be notified by email about circumstances relevant to the service or registration such as changes to the newsletter offer or technical conditions.

For an effective registration I need a valid e-mail address. In order to verify that an application is actually made by the owner of an e-mail address, I use the “double-opt-in” procedure. For this purpose, I log the order of the newsletter, the dispatch of a confirmation email and the receipt of the requested answer.

Further data is not collected.

The data will be used exclusively for newsletter distribution and will not be passed on to third parties.

The consent to the storage of your personal data and their use for the newsletter can be revoked at any time. Each newsletter has a link to it. You can also unsubscribe from this website at any time or provide us with your request via the contact details provided at the end of this document.

Contact Form

If you contact me via e-mail or my contact form, the information you provide will be stored for the purpose of processing your request and for any possible follow-up questions.

Use of Matomo (Piwik)

This website uses Matomo (Piwik). Matomo is a Free Open Source Software alternative to Google Analytics to allow for statistical evaluation of visitor access. I have configured Matomo NOT to use any cookies. The information and server log stats generated are stored on a secure server in Luxembourg.

The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and prior to its storage.

Any data gathered is used merely for statistical evaluation and to make improvements to the site in terms of content optimization and user experience.

Cookies

Unlike many other websites, I generally DO NOT use so-called “cookies” on my website. No cookies will be set without your explicit consent and opt-in.

Cookies are small text files that are transferred from a website server to your hard drive. These may collect certain data, such as IP address, browser used, operating system from your computer and your connection to the Internet. Cookies can not be used to launch programs or to transfer viruses to a computer.

You will have the option to consent and opt-in to use the following cookies:

  1. Blog comments – You will find an opt-in to accept a cookie on my site is in the comments of the news section: You may choose to accept a cookie that saves your name, email, and website in your browser for the next time that you want to comment. The cookie name is “comment_author”. You can still comment if you don’t want to accept this cookie
  2. Embedded content – Embedded elements (such as e.g Twitter feeds or YouTube videos) will NOT load per default. Only upon your explicit consent and by clicking the “I Accept” button, the embedded content will load in your browser. I do this to avoid sending any data to Twitter or Google without your knowledge. To achieve this, a cookie with the name “privacy_embeds” is set and used to manage and store user consent to load the third party embeds.

To summon it up: When you browser my site you will get full functionality without any cookies at all. In the two cases that a cookie is technically required to provide useful functionality you need to consent and opt-in before the cookies are set.

Social Media

On my page, I link to my online presences and social media accounts with Twitter and Google+. When clicking one these external links you visit 3rd party networks and platforms. The terms and conditions, privacy policies and the data processing guidelines of the respective operators will apply.

Your Rights to Information, Correction, Suspension & Cancellation

You have the right to receive information about your personal data stored by me at any time. Furthermore, you have the right to correction, blocking or, apart from the prescribed data storage for business transactions, deletion of your personal data.

Please contact the data protection officer aka me Daniel Tenningås if you want this. The contact details can be found at the bottom of this privacy policy.

For a data lock to be taken into account at all times, these data must be stored in a lock file for control purposes. You can also request the deletion of the data, as long as there is no legal archiving obligation. As far as such an obligation exists, I block your data on request.

You may make changes or revoke your consent by notice with effect for the future.

Change of my Privacy Policy

I reserve the right to change this privacy policy from time to time to always comply with current legal requirements or to implement any changes to our services in the privacy policy, such as e.g when introducing new services. Your new visit will be subject to the new privacy policy.
